It turns over like normal and tries to but it stops, then when I turn the key again it turns over for a few seconds before starting, and sometimes requires a second re-try before it starts.
Any suggestions? This is not a problem that requires a dealer. Find a good, local, independent shop and just use them for everything. Does it just go silent? Does it go click-click-click? How does it sound before it stops cranking? Slow and tired? Your issue is likely a simple one. Drive in to any big-box auto parts store and ask them to test your battery and charging system. How old is that battery? The other thing that needs to be checked are the cable connections - both ends of positive and negative should be pulled, cleaned and assured tight.
When it does re-start, does it also run a little rough for a few seconds? If so is possible that the fuel pressure regulator is failing. This is a very common issue with these cars. Most times it restarts just fine, though. It may be a fuel-system related thing. Try flooring the accelerator and turning the key.
If that gets it to fire up then you have a flooding problem, likely either from a leaking fuel pressure regulator or leaky fuel injectors. To learn about the check valve you can get a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what happens to the pressure when you shut the car down.
It should mostly hold. Do yourself a favor and just find a local, independent mechanic rather than using a dealer. Its not that hard to sort out - you just need someone interested in sorting it out. Try the flooring of the gas pedal while you start it. The car is still under warranty, so I might be able to get the dealer to do all this for free. Thanks for all your suggestions! Frist thing if you have problem starting it. Ya know. Bought the car new and I really do love my car. Since I've bought the car in Apr I've had this problem. Upon starting, all the gauges go to max then go to 0 then the car decides if it wants to stay started or stall. If I rev the engine, even just a teeny bit, it will stay started.
Go figure. I really do like this car. Ok bought and '04 Grand prix about a month ago, seemed mechanicly fine. Etest and Certified no problem. For the past week or so, car seems to loose power or something while driving, slows down by its self, cant push gas, shutters, chugg's, for about min then bust's forward and drives.
Mechanic said it was the mass air flow, replced that and still haveing same problem, and getting worse!!!! When I go to start my car, the engine will turn over but then it'll shutter and stall. My mechanic wasn't sure what it could be but he said it could be that I had water in the computer.
One of my friends said that GM's seemed to have this problem a lot and that it was usually a bad coil. The stalling can usually be counteracted by giving the car some gas as I start it.
Sometimes on start up I'll have to hit the gas to get the car to actually start and if I don't, it will start and then turn right back off. Ive been told it may have to do with the security system but not quite sure.

Voltage drops are a big problem, make sure your battery cables and connections are very clean and tight, check for battery voltage at the starter solenoid, then check for voltage on the starter side with someone turning the key to start if voltage is present then the starter is bad if voltage is not present then solenoid is bad, depending on the mileage on your vehicle then you might just replace the whole starter as a unit.

It's dead now and I've been using a charger to try to start. I'll try to describe what I'm seeing and hearing: When I turn the ignition key to the start position, I hear a rapid series of clicks.
If I let go of the key, leaving it in the RUN position, those clicks continue. The clicking makes me think it's the solenoid, but the fact that the clicking continues as I described makes me think it's something else. I'm going to hope that the battery is the problem. If i wait for the car to warm up I have no issue with the stalling, however if i dont wait it stalls right out and needs a bit of gas to restart itself.
Another thing that came along with this issue is a hesitation at higher speeds. Intermittently when I am up around the mph area i will give it gas and it will buck slightly, then most of the time when I let off and re-apply it is fine again.
Engine has trouble starting
I have recently replaced the PVC valve, and the entire secondary air system due to another issue with a PO code. This seemed to start the day after I replaced the PVC Valve, I origionally didnt take the o-ring off the old pvc valve and had to go to the hardware store to get another that I thought ft well.

When I go to start my car is runs for about 5 sec. So I have been doing a series of tests to narrow down the problem. I turn the ignition on to the run postion to make sure my fuel pump turns on which it does. Then I start the car, when it is running I can't hear the F. So now I'm working with this relays issue. Should be simple fix. These cars are very sensitive to this. The engine uses an electronic throttle, and is sensitive to buildup. If you remove the boot between the air cleaner and engine, you will see the throttle plate. Using a rag and some carburetor cleaner, open the throttle with your hand and use the rag and cleaner to wipe it out real well.The anti-theft system in a Pontiac Grand Prix is designed to prevent the vehicle from being stolen or operated by an unauthorized user.

Many times, for several days or weeks, a driver will get in their car and attempt to start it and notice a longer-than-normal startup time; the engine will turn over several times more than it should before it starts. Other times, it may not start at all, only to start again the very next day. These symptoms—as well as an engine that is sluggish to turn over, or won't turn over at all and just clicks—are all possible signs of a bad starter. If the battery and alternator have been tested and, if necessary, replacedthe most likely cause of the problem is a bad starter.
To replace the starter on a Pontiac Grand Prix, follow the steps outlined below. If these procedures are not followed, serious injury or even death may result. Jack up car and place on jack stands or drive up on ramps in order to gain access to the starter from below. Block the back tires so the car cannot roll backward. Using a standard battery wrench, disconnect the negative terminal on the battery to prevent shock, shorts, blown fuses, etc….

Diagnosing start problem, 2006 Grand Prix
It will be on the driver's side right in front of the oil pan. There is a wire harness that runs right next to the starter that may have to be pushed aside. There is a plastic shield attached by a 10mm bolt which slightly covers the starter mounting bolt. This shield will need to be removed. Use the 10mm combination wrench to remove the shield and set it aside.
The 15mm starter mounting bolts should be visible now. Use the ratchet with the appropriate size extension to reach and remove each of the two 15mm bolts holding the starter in place.
Work the starter down through the opening far enough to expose the two electrical connections on the top. One will be a 13mm nut and the other will be an 8mm nut.
Use the 13mm and 8mm combination wrenches to remove the nuts attaching the electrical connections. Lower the starter to the ground.
